Chief Judge Beth Phillips, Western District of Missouri, today appointed Faruqi & Faruqi co-lead counsel for the putative class of consumers in the Folgers ground coffee false advertising cases. The decision comes after the Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation centralized and transferred nine related cases to the Western District of Missouri for coordinated proceedings. The cases all allege that Folgers and its parent company engaged in deceptive conduct in overrepresenting the number of servings in Folgers brand ground coffee products.
In appointing Faruqi & Faruqi co-lead, the Court noted that the attorneys at Faruqi & Faruqi were highly seasoned and skilled litigators with extensive experience handling complex litigation. The Court also found that Faruqi & Faruqi has dedicated substantial time and effort to investigate the case, has detailed knowledge of the applicable law, and has sufficient resources to represent their clients. As the Court noted, Faruqi & Faruqi will “effectively represent the putative class and ensure that this case proceeds in an efficient manner. “
