SEC Enforcement Actions Reduced by 30% in 2025 Compared to the Prior Year
According to a report released by Cornerstone Research Inc. and the NYU Pollack Center for Law & Business, the SEC brought 30% fewer enforcement actions against public companies and subsidiaries in fiscal 2025 compared to 2024, a drop that coincides with the new administration.
In fiscal 2025, there was $808 million in monetary settlements, which is the lowest for any year in which there was a change in administration at the SEC and the second-lowest overall since at least fiscal 2010, according to the report. The average total annual monetary settlement between fiscal years 2016 and 2024 was $1.9 billion, researchers found.
