Fake Covid Test Scams: Four Tell-Tale Signs To Watch Out For
The FTC recently issued a warning that they have seen an uptick in the online sale of fake at-home Covid testing kits. To avoid falling prey to these scam artists, consider taking the following steps:
1) Check to make sure that the test you are purchasing is authorized by the FDA. A list of approved Antigen tests can be found here and a list of approved Molecular tests can be found here. If you cannot find the test you are considering buying on either list, don’t buy it.
2) Read reviews of the seller online before you buy. Buy from a seller you know and trust if possible.
3) If at all possible, pay with a credit card so that if things go wrong with your purchase, you can dispute the charge to get your money back.
4) Do not buy tests from unauthorized resellers on sites like Craigslist, Ebay, or NextDoor.
